This six-hour training helps you learn about good practices in Diversity, Equity, Inclusiveness and Belonging (DEIB). Through thoughtful discussion, you will be encouraged to reflect on your own identity and biases and develop a thoughtful strategy for practicing DEIB.

This workshop empowers and equips nonprofit leaders to fully understand and then operationalize diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging — not only because it’s best for the organization, but because it’s the right thing to do for your team, your community, your partners and your donors.

Participants will learn:

  • The fundamentals of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Identifying & talking constructively about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging adopting inclusive language with your organization and with your constituents and understanding why inclusive language matters.
  • How to incorporate what you've learned into your daily work, and understand what's required to act, maintain, and build along your DEIB journey.

Details & requirements

  • Participation in a workshop is free, supported through a grant made by Amazon.
  • A non-profit can propose/sponsor multiple applicants to either workshop.
  • There is a limit of 25 people for each workshop.
  • Applicants must currently be staff or a board member of a nonprofit serving Kirkland.
  • The nonprofit must have been in existence for at least two years (501c3 status).
  • Priority will be given to nonprofits that have been unable to engage prior DEIB professional training and/or have not yet established racial equity goals for the organization.
  • Registration requests will be confirmed by June 10th, 2024.
  • Depending on level of interest, there may be additional workshops offered in the fall of 2024.

Workshop Instructor

Sam Hampton is a seasoned executive with 37 years in the nonprofit and education fields. He has held leadership and consulting roles in program delivery and project management with nonprofits, schools, and affiliated agencies for the past 30 years. His was recently the head of Management Consulting Services at 501 Commons where he focused on delivering education on our workshop topics.

Sam brings a unique perspective to his work as he is a first-generation college graduate whose career has focused on empowering underserved populations. See his LinkedIn here.
