How to Give

The Kirkland Community Foundation (KCF) is pleased to share information about the many ways you can establish or contribute to a fund and support the Kirkland community. Whether you are making a one-time gift or planning for the future, we are here to help you find an approach that aligns with your values and goals.

Matching Gifts

Many employers offer matching gift programs that can double the impact of your donation. Contact your human resources department to learn whether your company participates.

Gifts of Stock

Donating appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds can be a tax-efficient way to support the work of KCF. Please complete our Stock Donation Notification Form to let us know of your intention to give. We will then provide instructions for your broker to complete the transfer.

Gifts From a Donor-Advised Fund

If you have a donor-advised fund and would like to recommend a grant to the Kirkland Community Foundation, please use your financial institution’s donor portal.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to the Kirkland Community Foundation. QCDs are not counted as taxable income and can be a meaningful way to support charitable funds at KCF.

To make a QCD, request a direct transfer from your IRA custodian and notify KCF so we can ensure your gift is credited appropriately.

Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)

Once Required Minimum Distributions apply, you must withdraw a minimum amount from your retirement account each year, which is generally taxable. Many donors choose to align their RMDs with their charitable goals by supporting organizations they care about.

You may choose to give through a RMD or make a charitable gift after taking your distribution.

Gifts in Wills and Estate Plans

Including a gift to KCF in your will or trust is a lasting way to reflect your values and support the Kirkland community beyond your lifetime. Legacy gifts help ensure that future generations benefit from strong nonprofits and local philanthropy. Find out about gifts in wills and estate plans here.

Gifts in Honor or Memory

You may honor a special person, celebrate an occasion, or make a memorial gift through KCF while supporting the Kirkland community. After your gift is made, we will send a personalized acknowledgment card to the honoree or their family. Please include the relevant details in the donation form comments section.

Outright Gifts (of Cash/Check)

Checks may be payable to Kirkland Community Foundation. Please include the name of the fund you wish to support in the memo line, if applicable. Mail your gift to:

Kirkland Community Foundation
603 4th Ave, Suite 500
Kirkland WA 98033

One of the easiest ways to give is online here. You may donate to any of our funds using a credit card through our secure giving platform. To do a wire or ACH transfer, please call KCF at (425) 505-3348 beforehand so we can provide instructions and ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund.
