There are many ways to strengthen Kirkland now and for generations to come.
Some are as simple as adding language to your will or naming the Kirkland Community Foundation as a beneficiary. Others can be designed with your attorney, accountant, or financial advisor to support both your charitable goals and your broader financial plans.
You may choose to support Kirkland’s future, carry forward a particular cause, continue supporting organizations you love, establish a fund in your name or your family’s name, or honor someone whose connection to Kirkland deserves to continue.
Every legacy begins with a conversation about what you want to make possible.

Give Through Your Will or Trust
A simple way to carry forward what matters to you.
Including the Kirkland Community Foundation in your will or trust is one of the easiest ways to create lasting support for Kirkland.
You remain in control of your assets during your lifetime, and you may revise your plans as your circumstances change. You decide what you want to support and how you want to be remembered.
Through your will or trust, you can:
Work with your attorney or estate-planning professional to include the Kirkland Community Foundation in your will or trust.
You may support an existing fund, establish a named fund, focus on an area of community impact, support a nonprofit, or provide flexible resources for Kirkland’s future.
Letting us know about your plans allows us to understand your wishes and work with you and your advisors to help ensure they are clearly documented. Drop us a line!
When the Foundation receives your gift, we steward it according to your intentions and help ensure that it continues strengthening the community and causes you care about.

I give, devise and bequeath all [or a portion — for example, 25 percent (25%)] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to Kirkland Community Foundation, Washington (Tax ID # 46-4931717) to be used in such a manner as the Board of Trustees thereof shall direct.
In the event that [insert name of primary beneficiary] shall not survive me, or shall die ninety (90) days from the date of my death, then I give, devise and bequeath [identify here a specific sum of money, a specific asset or the portion of the residual estate that would have been given to the primary beneficiary] to Kirkland Community Foundation, Washington (Tax ID # 46-4931717) to be used in such a manner as the Board of Trustees thereof shall direct.
Or:
In the event that [insert name of nonprofit organization primary beneficiary] is no longer in existence at my death, then I give, devise and bequeath [identify here a specific sum of money, a specific asset or the portion of the residual estate that would have been given to the nonprofit primary beneficiary] to Kirkland Community Foundation, Washington (Tax ID # 46-4931717) to be used in such a manner as the Board of Trustees of said Foundation thereof shall direct.
I give, devise and bequeath [identify here the specific sum of money, the specific asset or the portion of the residual estate] to Kirkland Community Foundation, Washington (Tax ID # 46-4931717) specifically for [name of donor-advised, donor-designated, named community, area-of-interest, scholarship or endowment fund]. If it is determined by the Board of Trustees of Kirkland Community Foundation that all or part of the gift is no longer needed, or for any reason cannot be used for the stated purpose, then such portion of the gift may be used for other related purposes, which the Board of Trustees deems to be in the best interests of Kirkland Community Foundation giving consideration to the original purposes described above.

A beneficiary designation can often be completed using a form provided by the account administrator and may not require changes to your will.
Retirement accounts can be an important part of charitable and estate planning.
You may name the Kirkland Community Foundation as a beneficiary of all or a percentage of a retirement account while using other assets to provide for family members or other beneficiaries.
Your financial, tax, and legal advisors can help you determine what is appropriate for your circumstances.
You may name the Foundation as a beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy or explore other ways a policy could support your charitable intentions.
A charitable gift annuity may provide fixed payments for life in exchange for a charitable contribution.
After those payments end, the remaining resources support the charitable purpose you selected. The Foundation can help coordinate with an appropriate charitable partner and your advisors.
A charitable remainder trust may provide payments to you, a loved one, or another beneficiary for a specified period or for life.
When the trust ends, the remaining assets support the charitable purpose or fund you selected.
A charitable lead trust directs payments toward charitable purposes for a set period. When that period ends, the remaining assets pass to the individuals or other beneficiaries you designate.
