As our organization evolved from a parks foundation into the Kirkland Community Foundation, helping support and connect the work of local nonprofits became an important part of our mission.
Since 2020, the Kirkland Community Foundation has helped connect generosity to nonprofit organizations serving Kirkland and the greater Eastside. Through community initiatives, donor-directed giving, and collaborative philanthropy, we help ensure local generosity reaches organizations doing meaningful work in our community.
Sometimes this support happens through public campaigns like Ignite Kirkland, where community members come together to fund nonprofit-led projects. Other times, support comes through donors who choose to direct gifts to specific organizations they care deeply about. In many cases, the Foundation also helps connect nonprofits with partners, visibility, and community support that helps their work grow.
What matters most is the result: nonprofits with more resources to serve people, strengthen neighborhoods, and help our community thrive.
Nonprofits have received support through the Kirkland Community Foundation in a variety of ways. As a place-based foundation, our role is often to help connect donors, community initiatives, and nonprofit organizations so resources can flow where they are most needed.
Programs like Ignite Kirkland bring community members together to support nonprofit-led projects through a shared giving campaign. The Foundation also helps launch or support initiatives that respond to emerging community needs and opportunities, such as Morning Matters, Spark Grants, and other collaborative efforts that bring partners together to address local priorities.
Community members with Donor-advised funds at the Kirkland Community Foundation recommend grants to nonprofit organizations over time, helping support causes and organizations that matter to them.
People sometimes make charitable gifts through the Foundation in honor or memory of someone they love, directing those gifts to specific nonprofit organizations they wish to support.
The Foundation has also provided fiscal sponsorship to charitable community projects that allows them to move forward before establishing their own 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Beyond direct funding, the Foundation often helps elevate nonprofit work by connecting organizations with donors, partners, and community leaders. Together, these pathways help ensure that generosity in our community moves effectively to support organizations doing meaningful work.
